We're Looking For Maine Rafting Guides

Come join Magic Falls Rafting Co. on the rapids!

Dear Potential Guide Trainee:

Our whitewater training session will be held from May 26-June 3, 2012. If we have a number of requests for guide training during the season, we will conduct additional training sessions. The training will include Safety Techniques, River Etiquette, and Daily Procedures, River Rescue and lots and lots of whitewater rafting!!!! In short, everything you will need to pass the Maine Whitewater Rafting Guide Exam for the Kennebec River, except for CPR and Basic First Aid. These can be acquired through the Red Cross and must be completed prior to whitewater training.

Cover Photo The cost of the training is $250.00. A $100.00 non refundable deposit is due with your application by April 1, 2012 with the balance of $150.00* due May 1, 2012. The full amount is due upon enrollment if enrolling in the course after May 1.  This fee includes staying at Magic Falls Rafting campground, a training manual, and use of all needed equipment (wetsuits, life jacket, and paddle). You will be responsible for your meals. The training classes will be limited to 18, so if you are interested you should let us know right away. For those guides who work through the season and maintain the work ethic and standards of Magic Falls Rafting Company, $200 of the training fee will be refunded at the end of the season.

After you have completed the guide training you will be ready to take the State exam for the Kennebec and Dead Rivers and become a Registered Maine Whitewater Guide (level I). Application and testing fee is $103.00. License fee is $90.00 for two years. Additional training is required for the Penobscot River (level II). As a Registered Maine Whitewater Guide you will be able to work for any rafting outfitter. However, we do ask you to train with us if you plan to work for our company. We prefer to hire the guides we train, as our program focuses on the high standards we require from everyone on our staff. Our guides earn $55.00 to $85.00 per day plus tips and dinner.

If you have any questions, or need more information, please call 1-800-207-7238.

Thank you,

Dave Neddeau
