Another delightful day on the water! The summer is winding down and the rafts floating down the gorge are diminishing as the weeks go on but the warm weather seems to want to stay (even this close to September). There are a few leaves changing color and it’s just beautiful. The “Rowes” from Vassalboro, Maine and Southern Germany along with the “Halls” from Fayetteville, Arkansas accompanied me on the river today. We swam, rode the bull and saw a bald eagle in flight and perched on a limb looking for his lunch. Thanks for coming everyone – And … good luck to the Colby Womens Soccer and Volleyball teams (who were also floating down with us today!) See you next time!

Sunday August 29  Joe F.

Holy smokes, what great weather we’ve had this year!!!!  Its been beautiful almost every day this summer.  Every day on the river is good, however, the last few days have been exceptional for me.  First, the Orne group from Camden were an exceptional crew, we had some better than average hits on the river.  Then I had a boy scout group from Mass. One of the best paddling crews I’ve ever had.  We were able to catch a few surfs, and finally today I took one of our own bus drivers and his family down the river.  Very, very nice folks, everyone had a great time which meant a lot to me.  I LOVE MY JOB!!!!!!!!!

Saturday, Aug. 28; Josh

This is Josh Raines, 9 year guide for MFR. I took my family down the river today, along with my realtor (just bought a house) and the Thomas crew. Tried to toss my wife out of the boat three times, but she kept getting back in – so frustrating! My parents had a great time, and I can’t wait to bring my baby boy down the river in a few years. The Thomas crew was great, playing tug of war, swimming and loving the beautiful weather here. Can’t wait to get back up here next weekend!

Friday August 27 Rich

Today was a blistering 75 degrees, water temperature was 73 degrees.  We had a sunny day all day.  Today we took the Winslow Soccer Team down the river.  They had a blast.  They will be back again to try and take the river.  I personally had people in my boat from Romania (2), New Hampshire (2) and Massachusetts (2).  Devin had the privilege of watching his father fall out of the boat.  It was priceless because dad was so concerned about Devin falling out he forgot about himself, LOL funny.  It was a great day on the river and tomorrow promises to be an even better day weather wise, so if you're not rafting with us have a great day and we’ll see you soon

Tuesday, August 24 Cory

Well folks! Today was my last day as a full time guide this summer. It makes me sad because I don’t want to leave to start the life of a college student … after a 10 year break! I hope to be back on the weekends as much as possible. Today was great! The Morrow group from Belfast, Maine was fun and interesting. Thanks to everyone for a great season.

Another great day on the Kennebec! Clouds disappeared shortly after putting in and the sun shown hot. Today I rafted with a group from the Maineacs National Guard in Bangor. A few of them were scared on their first ever whitewater trip but I didn’t lose any (by accident) and we had an amazing trip. Here’s to the Maineacs and our other groups on the river. Hope you visit again soon!

Two days off made for a fabulous day back at work. Had a great mix of people from all over; Florida, London, New York, Holland. Only a three boat trip today made for some small group interaction. Overall it was a great day on the river. Sunny in the 80's with only a cloud or two in the sky. And to top it off I got a chance to show my group our national bird; the Bald Eagle!

Wednesday, August 18, TJ:

Hey everybody. TJ  here.  I’m a second year guide here at Magic Falls and today I was lucky enough to have six of my good friends in the boat with me.  I’ve only had two days on the river this year, but today was the best of 2010!!!!  Yesterday I drove thru from Rhode Island but it was all worth it to see the look of joy (and fear) on my friends faces!!!  My crew paddled so well that I was able to hit center hole perfectly.

Monday August 16, Sara C:

Hello All!!!  Another fantastic, although rainy day, on the Kennebec River!!!!  Today was a special day for me; one year ago my husband, Josh and I were married at Carry Brook here on the river.  Josh and I met while working here at Magic Falls 5 years ago!!!!

Helping us celebrate our day were the Selser, Smith and York families along with Josh who co-guided.  We had swimmers aplenty despite the weather.  The kids Tori & Alex are natural paddlers and I think they now have the rafting “BUG”.  Can’t wait for the next fabulous year of rafting (and marriage)……

It was an absolutely beautiful day on the river!!  There were 6 sport boats on the river today and it was a blast.  I had two families in my boat and they were very cool.  One family came all the way from Los Angeles to paddle with us.  Thanks to my crew for making my day great…..

Another gorgeous day on the Kennebec River.  It seems mother nature is truly making up for the past couple of rainy summers, each day is better than the last.  As the guests filter out while I write this blog, everyone is smiling and satisfied.  Surfing, big waves and great days….Life is good in the Forks.

Thursday August 12, Jordan

I had a wonderful time today on the river.  The sun was out and it was the perfect temperature for a whitewater experience.  I had terrific rafting guests who all could paddle!!!!  My crew was respectful and  great to talk with.

Wednesday,.August 11th Jr.

Hi, this is Sean Jr, 2nd year video boater, 5th year guide, and 6th season "Captain Campground"/  If you've rafted with Magic in the past few years, invariably you've heard someone yell out "JUNIOR!!!!"  today I was guiding a sport boat, with the Kenney and Lane groups providing prolific paddle power, pushing the boat where we wanted to go.  Highlights of the day included submarining at Center Hole, an enthusiastic swimmer at Campkid, and a smashing hit at a diagonal in Black Brook Rapid.  The beautiful weather is always a plus, but cold or warm, you always end up tired, hungry and wet.  A temporary condition, given our end of trip meal back at base.

PS:  Shout out to the Hampton Rec crew.  You didn't embarass me too much this year!

August 10, Tuesday Tom W

Today was a fantastic day on the river.  I had a blast using a sport boat with 4 awesome people from northern Vermont! The weather was hot which made the river nice and refreshing to jump into.  It was also nice to have a three boat trip for a change.  One of the smaller trips of the summer.

August 9, Monday Dani

Well guys, this is my last day on the river for the season, and I was lucky to share it with a fun crew, the Gagnon family/friends group.  We got to hear some really great jokes, I have to say mine are probably the best you’ll ever hear….(not really)…..They were an interesting crew with many different backgrounds and experiences.  Good luck to you guys in your travels and experiences.  You made for a great day!!!!  It’s been great everyone!!!!  Hope to see you soon.

August 8, Sunday Cory L

Today was an unusual day.  There were clouds.  But no rain!!!  Stayed warm and everyone enjoyed swimming on the river.  We saw 42 bald eagles carry away a full grown bull moose.  The moose wasn’t very happy to say the least.  Only the third time I’ve seen this happen in 9 years of guiding.  All guests were in awe.  Okay, time for a joke…How do you know when a raft guide is lying?  Can’t guess?  Either their mouth is moving or they’re writing a blog.  Wait, maybe that’s just me.

Thanks everyone!  Can’t wait to be out there again tomorrow.

Good Day whitewater enthusiasts!

Today was an awesome day on the river.  I had an exceptional crew of friends from Vermont.  We had some great hits and looked good on the pictures and video.  The rafting season is still going strong.  If you’re on the fence about coming up for a whitewater trip, we urge you to join the fun.  For experienced paddlers, come for the big water dates on either the Kennebec or the Dead River!

Joe Friday Aug 6

Had a good trip today.  A couple from Germany and some folks from Skowhegan my home town, so that’s always nice.  Good weather!!!! Good hits!!!!  It doesn’t get any better then this til next time.

August 5, 2010 Dani

Hello there everybody!!!!  We had a very exciting day out there, with some excited girls from Camp Danbee.  They entertained us all day with their beautiful singing voices and cheers.  We had some other folks join us today too.  I had some nervous girls in my raft, but was happy to hear that they were having a good time after we got going a little bit.  They were a lot of fun to have on the river.  I hope everyone else had as much fun as we did.  Thanks for a great day!!!!!

August 1 Josh C

Had a great time with the “Play Group” !!!  Lots of swimming and flipping!!!!  Thanks to Joe for saving our extra paddles..
